Support your local Carnival! We are always on the lookout for help
throughout the year and especially at Carnival time. Here are some of
the ways you can get involved...
Throughout the year we run a variety of coffee mornings, plant and cake sales,
events such as treasure hunts, bingo, cheese’n’wine evenings and musical
shows. Look out for our posters; come along, donate items for sale and help
us raise funds for the Carnival. If you are in business locally, advertise in
our Carnival Programme.
We are always in need of marshals: to walk with the children in our Children’s
Carnival, or line up the floats on Carnival day afternoon, and help keep the
Procession safe in the evening. Volunteer, and be part of the team: it’s not
difficult and you will receive full written instructions so you’re sure you
know what to do. And you won’t be alone: if it’s your first time marshalling,
we will place you with an experienced marshal.
Collectors walk the Procession route with collection buckets: your job is to get
as much money out of the crowd as you can! We encourage Collectors to
dress up – there’s a prize for the best-dressed Collector!
Take part – get together with a group of family or friends, walk round as a
pair or go it alone. Both our Carnivals include many local entries: think up
an idea, make a costume and be part of it. Entry Forms are posted on this web
site in good time before the Carnivals, and in each case, entries are allowed
until the day before the Procession. With 16 Carnival Classes and 14 Special
Awards, there are plenty of prizes to be won! But most folk agree: just being
part of it is great.
